The historical marker in Gat Francisco “Soc” Rodrigo’s ancestral house which was unveiled recently may still be transferred to another place because of ownership issues.
Alex L. Balagtas, NHCP coordinator for the Bulacan and Zambales provinces, said in an interview that they received proposals on where will the marker be relocated if there will be problems with the new private owner of the ancestral house.
“Maaaring sa isa sa mga lupa ng angkang Rodrigo o sa Bulacan State University Meneses Campus,” said Balagtas referring to proposed areas for the relocation of the marker.
According to the NHCP coordinator, he has heard that there is a move being done to rename Bulacan State University (BulSU) Meneses Campus to BulSU Meneses-Rodrigo Campus because the land where the said BulSU satellite campus is established is donated by the Rodrigo family.
Balagtas also revealed that the Municipality of Bulakan, Bulacan plans to develop the park in front of their municipal hall into a historic park that may function like an outer museum at the same time.
“Isa sa mga magiging feature du’n ay yung marker o busto ng ating Dating Senador Soc Rodrigo,” stated Balagtas.
The historical marker was received by the Rodrigo family through a program attended by the Bulacan Provincial Government and the local government of Bulakan, Bulacan.
“Ang mas makahulugan hong pagdangal natin kay Soc Rodrigo ay tularan natin ang kanyang mga simulating ipinaglaban para sa Diyos at para sa bayan,” said Atty. Francisco “King” Rodrigo Jr., son of the late Sen. Rodrigo who spoke in behalf of his family in acceptance of the marker.
Atty. Rodrigo encouraged Bulakenyos to have the characteristic that his father has and is common to heroes, Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio and Marcelo del Pilar.
“Ang katangiang lakas ng loob na gumawa ng tama kahit na anong hirap nito,” stated the lawyer who believes that the thought of one person’s efforts to bring about change is a mistake.
According to the younger Rodrigo, once every Filipino does his own action to create change in the society, the nation will succeed because of every citizen’s accumulated efforts.
The representative of the Rodrigo family also said that his father graduated elementary in the public school of Bulakan, Bulacan and requested it to be included in the marker.
Also present in the occasion is the 99-year old wife of the late senator, Remedios Rodrigo who is also a Bulakan native.
Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado who graced the occasion said that Bulakenyos must always remember Rodrigo and his contributions to dignify his fellowmen.
“Patuloy po nating alalahanin na minsa’y may isang Soc Rodrigo na nabuhay sa mundong ito at nagbigay dangal sa liping Bulakenyo sa lahat ng paraang ikararangal ng kanyang mga kababayan,” expressed the governor.
Msgr.Manuel Manicad of the Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion Parish blessed the historical marker.
The unveiling of the historical marker was done in time of Rodrigo’s 100th birth anniversary.
Gat Soc Rodrigo was a teacher, a journalist, a playwright and a senator who was born in Bulakan, Bulacan. He fought the Martial Law during the Marcos regime which sent him to jail three times.
The late statesman is also known for using the Filipino language in his poems, plays, articles, speeches and in teaching.
