Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino cited Philippine constitutions to discuss territorial dispute in the 116th Independence Day commemoration at the Barasoain Church, Malolos City, Bulacan.
The MMDA chief said that unlike the 1987 and the 1973 Philippine Constitutions, the Malolos Constitution had no section specifically tackling national territory which he then deemed as just and appropriate.
With the dispute over some parts of the Philippine territory at hand, Tolentino enumerated the challenges to today’s Filipinos.
Tolentino also stated that until the roots of independence, where love for the country and its territory flows, fills the hearts of Filipinos, no powerful country can threaten us.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado said that now that the ball of freedom is in our hands, the only thing to do is to shoot it and not miss this time.
With the theme, “Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago,” Bulakenyos from different sectors gathered to celebrate the Freedom Day.
Tolentino led the flag-raising and wreath-laying rites, together with prominent Bulacan provincial and local government officials.
